Hazel Gardner, Owner of Watch Me Grow Daycare, came to AOC for Arthroscopic knee surgery for medial meniscal tears both knees. Dr. Patton performed surgery on the right knee on June 28th and on the left knee on Aug 9th.
AOC was able to sit down with Hazel and ask her a few questions about her experience:
How long did you have knee pain before you saw Dr. Patton? About two years ago a door hit my knee and I have been in pain ever since. I was scared to even let a doctor touch her until she met Dr. Patton. “He made me feel comfortable and didn’t pressure me to have surgery. Just told me to let him know when I was ready.”
How was your pain affecting your work/lifestyle? “I wasn’t able to get around very well. I wasn’t able to get on the floor and play with the children at work. All the compensating I did for the right knee started making my left knee hurt”.
Did you have physical therapy before or after your surgery? “I had some physical therapy before surgery but didn’t get much relief. I’m currently in physical therapy now and it’s helping a lot”.
Was the physical therapy beneficial to you? “I was able to go back to work and get around much better in just 3 weeks after surgery”.
Since your surgeries would you say you are back to your “old self” and normal routine again? “Oh yes, it gave me my mobility back, it gave me my LIFE back! I can sleep at night again without pain. I’m back to playing with the kids on the floor again at work”.
Would you recommend this type of surgery to others? “I wouldn’t have had my left knee done if it hadn’t made the right one feel so much better”.
