Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is Physical Therapy covered by my insurance?
A: Most insurance companies do cover
physical therapy services in full or partially. As
a courtesy, we will call your insurance company to
confirm your benefits prior to your physial therapy
evaluation. We also work directly with patients who
need special payment arrangements. If you have any
questions please call either physical therapy department.
Q: Does physical therapy require a physician's referral?
A: Yes, in the state of Alabama a
signed physician's referral is required.
Q: I have heard that physical therapy will hurt. Is
this true?
A: It is not our intent to cause
either increase or additional pain. Sometimes there
are temporary increases in pain levels particularly
after the initial evaluation or beginning a therapeutic
exercise program. Our goal is to restore maximum function
without increasing discomfort or pain. Your therapist
can provide excellent pain relief however if there
is a temporary increase in your pain.
Q: How long will each physical therapy session last?
A: You can expect your average physical
therapy session to last from 45 to 90 minutes depending
on the complexity of your diagnosis and physical therapy
intervention.
Q: What should I expect on my first physical therapy
visit?
A: You will be evaluated by a physical
therapist licensed in the state of Alabama with specific
qualifications to deal with your orthopaedic condition.
He/she will explain the required physical therapy
and expected outcomes along with what will happen
during your therapy sessions.
Q: What should I wear to my physical therapy session?
A: Lose fitting clothes or shorts
and tennis shoes are preferred.
