Job title: Medical Assistant
Reports to: Nursing Supervisor
Summary
This position, under general supervision, performs the day to day nursing duties for a specifically assigned physician through treatment, discharge and follow-up on a designated pod
Essential functions

Medical Assistant Activities (95 percent of time)
- Performs the day-to-day nursing activities as the medical assistant, in accordance with AOC policies and procedures. Duties include, but are not limited to: Triaging patients, case management administering injections & medications, charting as required, triaging phone messages, calling in orders to area hospitals per physician, placing and removing casts as required and ordering supplies.
- Maintains a working knowledge of the physician's specialty, through CME's and other classes to remain proficient in the related field of nursing.
- Provides patient and family education through handouts and other media sources as necessary
- Maintains records and documentation, collects, records, and prepares data as needed
- May be required to work for non-assigned physicians from other pods, may be assigned non- nursing duties as deemed necessary by nursing supervisor
Other activities (5 percent of time)
- As assigned by Supervisor or Operations Manager

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
- Alabama Nursing License and/or Medical Asst Certification
- Not required for this position
- Normal exposure to weather and temperature extremes.
- Normal amount of overtime or extended work hours required.
- High School Graduate/GED and Medical Assistant Certification
- Minimum of 2 years medical assistant experience preferred
- Experience in Othopaedics preferred.
- Must have strong team orientation.
