AOC was a host site for the Mobile Chamber’s Summer Scrubs Program for local high school students interested in careers in the healthcare industry. The students rotated through our Outpatient Surgery Center observing surgeries. They also visited our X-ray department to learn about our state of the art digital x-ray equipment. They learned about our clinic flow and the types of injuries we treat at AOC. They even learned how to cast a wrist and ankle. They visited our Physical and Occupational Therapy departments. This is a great opportunity for students to be exposed to a wide range of health care careers and unique opportunity for AOC to give back to our community.

Many thanks to Dr. Revels and Chris Key for playing in the Docs vs Jocks Charity Softball game this past Saturday at Hank Aaron Stadium. Unfortunately, the Jocks (radio & tv celebrities) walked away with a win. The final score was 3 to 2. However, Dr. Revels and Chris represented AOC very well and were the best hitters on the team! In May 2008, Alabama Orthopaedic Clinic held its 10th Annual Alabama Orthopaedic Clinic Golf Classic. Each year, the objective is to raise awareness for a local charity as well as present the net proceeds from tournament to the charity of choice. In 2008, Victory Health Partners was chosen as our benefitting charity. Victory Health Partners exists to provide healthcare to working adults who are uninsured. Our partnering groups for the 2008 golf tournament were Victory Health Partners, Magnolia Grove Golf Course, McKesson Medical-Surgical, Southern Companies, Euflexxa and WALA FOX 10 News. We raised $10,000 in net proceeds for Victory Health Partners, which covers the cost of healthcare for one week at their clinic serving working adults in south Alabama and south Mississippi who are uninsured.

AOC participated in the 2008 Arthritis Walk with more than 25 employees, physicians and family members walking as a team. The AOC Skeleton Crew team raised more than $900 for the Arthritis Foundation. Thank you walkers and to everyone who purchased stars to support the Arthritis Foundation. AOC also provided Bone Density screenings at the Health & Wellness Expo after the walk.
