Two chances to make a difference one step at a time this weekend.
The Sidewalk-a-thon
a community walking event
Friday, April 27, 2012 at 3.30pm
Starts at Spring Hill College and ends at Lavretta Park
Some of Spring Hill’s youngest residents have partnered with The Village of Spring Hill Inc. to develop a fundraiser for construction of sidewalks on the north side of Old Shell Road.
Dean Brown, CEO of Alabama Orthopedic Clinic, said they decided to sponsor the Sidewalk-a-thon because the clinic is located within the Spring Hill community and serves the orthopedic needs of the area where many of their employees and physicians also live.
“Most of all, our clinic has a campaign to promote wellness and fitness to Mobile and Baldwin counties,” said Brown. “We believe that the new sidewalks will promote a healthy lifestyle and this project fits nicely with the community outreach that we are already doing, like exercise classes and nutrition courses. We are very proud to be a sponsor of this event.”
The Sidewalk-a-thon will include a one-mile walk with adult supervision, a “finish line party” complete with pizza, ice cream, a DJ, a performance by Sunnyside Theater, and alternate activities, including a sidewalk chalk art competition for younger children not participating in the walk.
